Have you ever looked in a hymnal and wondered, “What are these dots, what are these lines, and for goodness’ sake, why are there so many of them and what do they have to do with my voice?!” If you have, fear not! These and so many other questions about the hymnal wander in and out of the minds of many church-going Lutherans on a weekly basis. If you’ve ever been curious about what you’re looking at when you open a hymnal and how to make your hymn singing experience richer and more fluid, then you’re invited to “Demystifying the Hymnal: Enriching Your Worship Singing Experience” on Sunday, September 29, 2019 after the 10:30am service in the Alumni/ae Room. At this event, Music Director – Choir, Jonathan Mott will provide you with tips that will help you:
- Read musical notation
- Breathe and sing more efficiently
- Decode any other information you see on the page of a hymnal
Absolutely no preparation or skill is necessary—people of all musical abilities are welcome. Plenty of time will be left for question and answer, though if you have questions in the meantime, feel free to email Jonathan.
