Advent Is Here!

Advent Is Here!

In 2021, UniLu will begin the liturgical season of Advent on Sunday, November 14, giving us six weeks of Advent instead of the usual four. Many Lutheran, Episcopal, and Methodist churches have revived the practice of “extended Advent” over the last several years. We are grateful for the extra time to prepare for the reign of the God whose grace is embodied in Jesus Christ. See the rationale for extended Advent (PDF) from The Advent Project for more.

Pastor Kathleen Reed will lead a Sunday morning “Advent Connection Time” on Zoom and in person from 10:00-10:20 am throughout the season of Advent. This will use a separate Zoom link, available below. All ages are welcome!

Advent wreath-making

Join us in person on Sunday, November 28, following the service, in the Alumni/ae Room for Advent Wreath Making! UniLu will provide greens, wire, and clippers for all; bring your own form and candles, or purchase them from us. Forms are $12 and candles are 4 for $6. All are welcome!

Pageant and Hymn Sing

On Sunday, December 12, we will have our annual Christmas Pageant during our 10:30 am worship service. Adults and children are invited to come as a character of your choosing! Come ready to play the part of heaven or nature that inspires you. Costumes are available for angels, barn animals, shepherds, Mary, and Joseph, but please feel to bring whatever costume you need to to fill the role you choose. Costumes are encouraged but not required. No rehearsals or RSVPs are required. All are welcome!

Following the worship service, we are hoping to have a moment in which we can connect with our own voices, see one another, and enrich our lives with the hymns we love. All those carols that you haven’t sung in a whole year will be coming your way at our Annual Christmas Hymn Sing. Join generations of friends and family for refreshments and your favorite seasonal carols from our cranberry hymnal. Instrumentalists of all skills and varieties are encouraged to bring their instruments along to accompany the voices. Please email Jonathan with any questions or suggestions!
