Lutheran Denominational Counselor

Pastor Joanne Engquist serves as Lutheran Denominational Counselor. "I'm here to lend an ear to all, and to help those of you in candidacy processes with some of the hurdles ahead of you (especially the extra ones because of choosing to come to HDS for your MTS or MDiv)," Joanne writes. Joanne has on-campus office hours in the OMS office, Andover 108, by appointment and on Mondays from 3 to 5pm. Drop by to introduce yourself, or set up another time for lunch or coffee. Courses of Interest

Joanne will be teaching HDS 2961: Lutheran Confessional Theology in spring 2008. Class will take place from 2:00 to 4:30 P.M. (not 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. as previously scheduled); the first meeting is Monday, February 4.

Lutherans in Diaspora Conference

For 30 years, the Lutherans in Diaspora conference has invited Lutheran students and advisors from non-Lutheran seminaries and divinity schools in the Northeast for a winter weekend together. The 2008 gathering takes place Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 at Yale. ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson and New England Synod Bishop Margaret Payne will be present, as will Dr. Stan Olson, director of ELCA Vocation and Education; Gordon Lathrop will be one of the presenters.

Carpools will leave Cambridge about 3:00 P.M., or earlier if people are willing and able. If interested, complete and return the registration form (PDF; Adobe Reader required) to the YDS denominational counselor indicating your food restrictions, housing needs, *and* including your $20 registration fee. If you need housing, the registration deadline is February 1, 2008.

At University Lutheran

We'd love to see you at that "other" gathering place for Lutherans at Harvard, University Lutheran Church. We worship on Sundays at 9 A.M. and 11 A.M. (except during the summer and Christmas break, when we worship at 10 A.M.). Many HDS students are also active in our Young Adults and Graduate Students group.
