Opportunities for community, learning, worship, and service for Lutherans at HDS abound—both on and off campus:

  • HDS Lutherans is a student-run organization that brings students together for worship and other events. See the HDS Lutherans Facebook page for the latest schedule, and contact co-coordinators Alissa Oleson or Robin Lutjohann with any questions.

  • UniLu's Young Adults and Graduate Students group, coordinated by HDS student Alissa Oleson, has a regular schedule of gatherings, including lunches and suppers, student-led services, outings, and retreats.

  • HDS Lutherans attend the Lutherans in Diaspora gathering (see below) every February, and host it every three years.

  • Rev. Tim Stein, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Mass., serves as Lutheran denominational counselor, advising students in candidacy processes. Pastor Don Larsen teaches courses on Lutheran polity (see below).

Lutherans in Diaspora Conference

For 30 years, the Lutherans in Diaspora conference has gathered Lutheran students and advisors from non-Lutheran seminaries and divinity schools in the Northeast for a winter weekend together. Princeton Theological Seminary, Yale Divinity School, Union Theological Seminary, and HDS typically take turns hosting the conference. See the 2011 conference website for a sample.
