In 1997, University Lutheran Church and the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter jointly undertook a $2.4 million campaign to fund renovations to the 66 Winthrop Street building. Construction began in April 1999 and was substantially completed in November of that year. Here's how things looked afterwards:
